On the way home we stopped in at Upper Canada Village in Morrisburg. It's about an hour from Ottawa, east of the 416 on the St. Lawrence. We spent most of the day there as there was plenty to do. Highlights included the boat ride towed by a horse, the school house filled with pioneer children, the Family Centre, the bakery, carriage ride, and a romp through the farm chasing and being chased by 6 squealing and playful piglets. Us moms were sure that we would have sleeping children for a good portion of the ride home but no such luck!

Day 3 in Ottawa
Our day started when we picked up our friends. We went to Parliament Hill and watched the changing of the guard. We then proceeded to the Parliament buildings for a tour. If I were to do this again I would probably book a private tour. This tour was very "adult" but the kids did well.
Next we went to the Museum of Civilization. This was our second or third visit. We spent most of our time in the Children's Museum but did manage a quick walk through of Canada Hall. On our next visit we will leave the Children's Museum until the end. Once the kids are there they don't want to leave. The wonderful thing about Ottawa is that most attractions are reasonably priced. At the Gallery, the kids were free. Some of the highlights at the Children's Museum were the ship (of course), the house under construction, the theatre, pyramid, and the special exhibit (until Sept.) on Architecture.
After 5 hours at the Museum the gang was ready for dinner. We met more friends at the Market for a dinner at Zak's. Fantastic day.

Day 1 in Ottawa
Ottawa is like our second home. My two best friends live in Ottawa and are very accommodating! We usually go 2-3 times per year and are getting to know the city better. Our first day was spent visiting the National Gallery and then visiting with friends.
We met a little Boston Terrier named Daisy who works at the Gallery with her owner. We enjoyed some time with her before the Gallery opened.
The Gallery has some wonderful programs for kids and tours for families. After we spent some time at the Group of Seven exhibit and in the Modern Hall we went to the children's activities. They had 4 or 5 art/crafts activities that the kids could do along with face painting. The theme for the day was insects.
After the Gallery we went back to Casey's and enjoyed some play time and a wonderful visit with her parents.

Last week we went on a road trip to Parry Sound with Daddy and then on to Ottawa with a friend and her son. Daddy went home to work. In Parry Sound we went on the cottage cruise. It was a grey day and not very warm. We're not having the summer we normally have. We spent some time with good friends and Mickey proved that she's over her hatred of babies. We also were determined to see a black bear so we went for the requisite visit to the local dump where a teenage bear was waiting for us by the gate.
